UT’s Lindsey Stephens chosen in NPF draft

AUSTIN, Texas — Senior outfielder Lindsey Stephens became the 10th University of Texas softball player to be selected to play in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) when she was chosen in the fourth round by the Pennsylvania Rebellion.
The 21st overall pick, Stephens said was thrilled to be drafted, but said that her attention will remain on her team at UT before she can turn her attention to her upcoming professional career.
"I'm super-excited to be drafted by the NPF's Pennsylvania Rebellion," Stephens said. "Now, I get the chance to experience living on the east coast and to continue playing the game that I've loved since I was young. I've still got some work to finish here at Texas before I embark on my new career, but I couldn't be more excited to have this opportunity."
Stephens leads the Longhorns this season in virtually every statistical category, including batting average (.407), runs scored (31), hits (48), doubles (15), triples (three), HR's (seven), RBIs (29), total bases (90), slugging percentage (.763), on-base percentage (.478) and stolen bases (11). Her 15 doubles stand just one shy of tying the program single-season record of 16 currently held by former Longhorns standouts Taylor Thom and Nadia Taylor. The Longhorns have 13 games remaining in the regular season.
In her career, Stephens currently ranks fourth in career batting average (.359) and second in home runs (39), is tied for third in RBIs (149), tied for second in triples (13), tied for ninth in doubles (35), ranks second in slugging percentage (.706), is tied for seventh in runs scored (131) and sixth in on-base percentage (.434).
The 27-12 Longhorns will attempt to end a two-game losing skid at 2 p.m. Saturday in Norman, Okla., in a game against the Sooners that will be aired on ESPN2.
