Volleyball announces Big 12 matches
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas volleyball team, which reached the national championship match before losing the title to Kentucky, released its Big 12 schedule for the fall slate Wednesday.
Following the same format as the 2020-21 conference-only schedule in the fall, the Longhorns will play two-game series against opponents, rather than single matches like in years past.
The conference portion of the schedule opens with two matches in Austin against West Virginia, a middle-of-the-pack team last year that went 8-8 in Big 12 play, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
A road trip to Kansas follows a week later, with contests against the Jayhawks on Oct. 8 and 9.
After returning home to face TCU Oct. 14 and 15, a squad that finished dead last in the Big 12 standings in 2020-21, the Horns hit the road once again for trips to Iowa State Oct. 21-22 and Baylor Nov. 5-6.
The Lady Bears and Longhorns have battled it out for the Big 12 title in each of the last five seasons. Texas went 4-0 against Baylor last season; only one of those matches was played on Baylor's home court.
Texas hosts the volleyball version of the Red River Showdown when Oklahoma travels to Austin Nov. 11 and 12, and hosts Kansas State the weekend after that. Kansas State finished just behind Baylor and Texas in conference play during the 2020-21 season.
The Longhorns cap off the conference slate in Lubbock Nov. 26 and 27, with two contests at Texas Tech. Texas has dominated the series against the Lady Raiders, going 39-2 all-time and not dropping a set to Texas Tech in each of the last six meetings.
Times and television broadcast information for all matches have not yet been released.
Unlike last fall, a non-conference slate will be paired with the Big 12 schedule, with the majority of those matches to be announced as the season draws closer. A couple of Big 10 teams did release their complete 2021 schedules this past week, including Minnesota, which will host Texas at Maturi Pavilion Sept. 1.
