“I am thrilled to have Sophia join our team this fall,” Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said. “She has a terrific playing record going back into her junior golf days with multiple wins. Schubert won her first college tournament when she fired a 204 at the Alamo Invitational, breaking the Auburn record for scoring in a 54-hole tournament. She also tied for 13th place at the NCAA Regional, one of five times she finished among a tournament’s top 20.
She ended her season by earning a spot on the Southeastern Conference’s All-Freshman team and was ranked 49th in the nation by Golfweek.
Prior to enrolling at Auburn, Schubert was ranked 23rd in the Polo Golf rankings by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), and won Rolex Junior All-America honors in 2012 and 2014, was Knoxville News Sentinel PrepXtra Masters champion three times and was named PrepXtra Player of the Year in 2011. While playing for the Christian Academy of Knoxville, Schubert was the high school state champion of Tennessee in 2010, 2012 and 2013, won four consecutive district and regional titles, and won the 2012 Music City AJGA title and the 2013 PNC Bank AJGA championship.
Schubert will be eligible to compete for the Longhorns in the fall of 2015.
