Elite Texas Men’s Basketball concluded 2023 season
On the final Sunday in March 2023, Texas Men’s Basketball played their last game of the season in the NCAA Elite Eight with the decision going to Miami 88-81. It would be the first time Texas lost a game all season when they were leading going into halftime and concluded with a 29-9 over record.
Texas graduate guard Marcus Carr led the team in scoring with 17 points, hitting three of eight from three point range, was the game-high six assists in 38 minutes of play.
The super-season Timmy Allen scored 16 points and four rebounds before fouling out with 0:23 left in the game. Sir’Jabari Rice contributed 15 points, nine of those points were from his 3-6 shots from the three point range.
Every Texas player who played scored. Tryese Hunter scored nine points and had five assists. Brock Cunningham scored seven points and yanked down a team-high eight rebounds in 19 minutes of play.
Christian Bishop scored seven points, pulled down five rebounds and had three assists. Arterio Morris played 10 minutes, scored six points by hitting two from three point range. Dillion Mitchell scored four in his 13 minutes on the court.
Texas led going into the half which has been a good sign all season long as Texas was 22-0 coming into the game when leading at the half. Texas led by as much as 13 points in the second half until 8:53 left in the second half when Miami started to whittle the lead down to a 75-75 tie game with 4:40 left.
Texas would score just six points the rest of the game to conclude an outstanding 2023 season against a lot of adversity.
Texas hit 30-60 (50%) from the field 10-25 (40%) from three point range. Texas would go to the foul line 15 times and make 11. Miami went to the foul line 32 times and hit 28 shots.
Texas defense kept Miami from scoring from three point range, taking just eight shots and making two. Miami made 34 points from the paint to Texas’ 28 from the paint.
The game was tied seven times with six lead changes. Texas led the game for 27:40 minutes and Miami 7:07 minutes of which the last second being the most important.
In the post game, Texas players Brock Cunningham, Timmy Allen, and Marcus Carr along with coach Rodney Terry were emotional.
Rodney Terry shared his thoughts with the players in the locker room
Dillion Mitchell said of Rodney Terry, “He’s our head coach no matter what title he has.”
Sir’Jabari Rice said of Rodney Terry at his locker, “He’s the ultimate leader. I wouldn’t ask for nobody else to be here. I don’t understand why he doesn’t have the coaching job yet. That’s something you can put in your article too.”
Timmy Allen said, “I just want to tell you how much I love RT.”
