Horns Illustrated Publisher Pens Letter

Dear Horns Illustrated Fans,

Big 12 Championship Game or Bust!

From day one, Coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns have said that playing in contention for the Big 12 Championship remained the number one goal of the season. Now the Longhorns (9-3, 7-2 Big 12) have made that dream a reality. Can you believe it? Next Texas will take on Oklahoma at AT&T Stadium in Arlington in a rematch of the Red River Showdown game, which Texas won, in October. This will mark the first time the Longhorns have played in the Big 12 Championship since 2009 when Mack Brown still manned the helm.

It's been a long nine years, but oh how sweet it is to return to prominence on both the conference and the national scene.

This team bears a strong resemblance to the 2001 Texas team which snuck into the Big 12 Championship thanks to an Oklahoma loss to Oklahoma State. I'll never forget the Monday after the Longhorns secured their spot when my best friend Bryant came strutting into the high school cross country locker room (a far cry from the football locker room) and announced he and his family would attend the Big 12 Championship game in Dallas. The time represented a come back of the Horns and the first time that we as young Texas fans had seen the team close to national title contention. Little did we know a few years later Bryant and I would attend the National Championship game together and watch Vince Young and the 2005 team win it all.

The times feel very similar now. In just his second year Tom Herman has the Longhorns back on track and the days ahead look bright. Here’s to the Horns winning the Big 12 Championship and carrying the momentum into the bowl game and next season.

I like exploring the why's and have three objectives. First is to give value to those who would spend time with our content. Second is to be respectful of others and for the opportunity to tell a positive story about all of the Texas Longhorns teams, players, and coaches regardless of their record. Lastly, to put wind in the sails of others using the Horns Illustrated platform. Life is GOOD!
