Football
The University of Texas had one of its former players win a Super Bowl ring on Sunday with the Seattle Seahawks 43-8 victory over Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Earl Thomas, who is in his fourth year in the NFL, helped Seattle win its first Super Bowl in franchise history with seven tackles in the game.
Thomas is a three-time Pro Bowler in the NFL and played safety for the Longhorns from 2007-2009. Thomas is the 23rd former Texas Longhorn player to win a Super Bowl.
Men's Basketball
The Texas Longhorn basketball team is preparing to play the TCU Horn Frogs in Fort Worth tonight at 7 p.m. central time. The No. 15 Longhorns are now 17-4 overall and 6-2 in Big 12 play after dominating Kansas in the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Longhorn defense held Andrew Wiggins, a future lottery pick in the NBA Draft, to seven points and 2-for-12 shooting from the field. Wiggins had been averaging 22.5 points per game over the last three Big 12 games before coming into the Texas game. He is also on everyone's Wooden Award Watch List.
Isaiah Taylor and Jonathan Holmes led the Longhorns in scoring to help Texas beat the No. 6 Jayhawks 81-69. Taylor finished with 23 points, while Holmes finished with 22 points.
Taylor later won Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week for his performance against Kansas.
Women's Basketball
The Texas Women's basketball team fell to No. 9 Baylor on Saturday in Waco 87-73. The Longhorns are now 14-7 overall and 5-4 in the Big 12 Conference. Nneka Enemkpali posted her third consecutive double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.
The Longhorns host Texas Tech tomorrow, Feb. 5 in the Frank Erwin Center at 7 p.m. central time.
Baseball
The Texas Baseball team unofficially kicked off the 2014 season with an 8-3 win over the UT Alumni at UFCU Disch-Falk Field Saturday afternoon.
Some of the players that made up the Alumni team were Drew Stubbs, Brandon Workman, Huston Street, Chance Ruffin, Sam Stafford and Jordan Etier.
The Longhorns open their season on Feb. 14 in California for a four-game set.
