Baseball
The University of Texas Longhorn baseball team will play the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the preliminary round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
The Longhorns will be the fifth seed in the tournament, while Texas Tech was awarded the fourth seed. Oklahoma State earned the top seed in the eight-team tournament. First pitch for the Texas versus Texas Tech game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner of the game will play the winner of the Oklahoma State versus Oklahoma matchup. The games will be broadcast on FOX College Sports.
The Longhorns are coming off a Big 12 series win on the road over the Kansas State Wildcats this week, in which they won two out of three games. The Longhorns shut out the Wildcats in the first game of the series 12-0. Kansas State came back on Saturday and scored three in the bottom of the ninth inning for a walkoff win, 5-4.
Texas returned on Sunday and won in extra innings, 9-8, to take the series and end their regular season on a positive note. The Longhorns enter the Big 12 Championship with a 36-16 overall record and 13-11 conference record.
Softball
The University of Texas Softball team's season ended on Sunday with a loss to Louisiana Lafayette in the Regional final. The Longhorns were the number two seed in the Regional, while Louisiana Lafayette was the number one seed.
The Longhorns finish the season with a 35-23 overall record. The Longhorns win against Mississippi State on Saturday pushed their win total to 35 this season which the Longhorns have now achieved in the last six seasons.
Texas started the Regional off with a 1-0 win over Mississippi State on Friday, but fell to Louisiana Lafayette 3-2 in their next game to go into the loser's bracket.
With the Longhorns facing elimination and down 3-1 going in to the seventh inning against Mississippi State, Texas rallied and scored three runs through a three-run homer by Lindsey Stephens and won 4-3.
The Longhorns returned on Sunday afternoon against top-ranked Louisiana Lafayette for the second time and fell 11-1 to the Ragin' Cajuns in the Regional Final.
Track and Field
After winning the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Title in March, the University of Texas Women's Track and Field team dominated on Sunday to win the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Title. The women were led by wins in eight events, with seven of those wins coming on Sunday to total 149 team points. Baylor finished in second with 113.5 team points.
Morolake Akinosun won both the 100 and 200 meters titles. Courtney Okolo set a meet record in the 400-meter run, but also set a collegiate record with a time of 50.03 seconds.
Marielle Hall won the 1,500 meters, her fourth Big 12 title of the 2013-14 academic year.
The Texas Men's Track and Field team finished in second place behind Texas Tech and still put in solid performances across the events, but just came up a few points short of the Red Raiders.
The Men finished with 125 team points, while Texas Tech finished with 160.5 team points for their Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Title. Crouser took home the discus title with a Big 12-record and personal-best toss of 209-8 (63.90). Zack Bilderback became the first Longhorn to win the Big 12 men's outdoor 400-meter title when he ran a personal-best 45.66.
