Senior wideouts Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay each had a monster game against the Jayhawks in Johnson’s second game back from a hamstring injury.
Duvernay finished with eight catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns, while Johnson hauled in eight catches for 96 yards. The duo being on the field at the same time presents matchup problems for any opponent.
“It’s huge to have both of them healthy,” Ehlinger said. “Those guys are incredible talents, and it’s really tough for defenses to stop one of them, and then you put two of them out there … defenses can’t stop both. They have to pick their poison. It just increases the versatility the offense has.”
Both Duvernay and Johnson [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]came into the program with the 2016 recruiting class and have an appreciation of each other and are good friends off the field.
“We’ve been in the fire together,” Johnson said. “Every single year we’ve been fighting next to each other. If I go to war with anyone, I want someone like him next to my side. I love going to war with him each and every week. He’s just as competitive as you can be.”
“Collin is a great player and it’s good having him back,” Duvernay said. “We look at it as we help each other, take pressure off each other. Things like getting the other in single coverage. We don’t feel like a defense can stop the both of us. I feel like we’re two of the best out there.”
