INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Divers from the University of Texas won the women’s team title and the combined team title at the 2019 USA Diving Nationals at the IU Natatorium that ended May 26. UT divers won eight gold medals over the course of the eight-day competition, and Murphy Bromberg and Alison Gibson qualified to represent the United States at the World Championships July 12-28 in Gwangju, South Korea.

The Longhorn divers beat[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] runner-up Purdue by almost 54 points to claim the combined team title, and topped GC Diving by 10.5 points in the women’s competition.

Texas diving head coach Matt Scoggin said the results not only celebrate the accomplishments of Texas divers, but also reflect an upward trend within the UT program off of which the Longhorns can build as they prepare for next season.

“A lot of positives for the UT divers at USA Nationals, including two gold medals from Alison (Gibson) and Murphy (Bromberg) to qualify for this summer’s World Championships,” Scoggin said. “The divers also added six bronze medals, three fourth-place finishes and 14 finals performances, as well as winning the women’s team title and the combined national team title. Not everything went exactly as we planned, but the Texas divers will take all the positive momentum in the weight room and in their training to prepare for the rest of the summer.”

Bromberg collected three top-three finishes to emerge as the Longhorns’ top medal winner. The 2019 NCAA platform champion, Bromberg earned her bid to the World Championships when she teamed with Katrina Young to win gold in platform synchro with 294.42 points. She then added a pair of bronze medals in the three-meter synchro event and on the tower.

Gibson earned her trip to Gwangju by teaming with Krystal Palmer to win gold in the three-meter synchro event, thanks in part to the best dive of the final round, a back 2.5-somersault pike that earned 65.70 points.

Sophomore Jordan Windle also won a pair of bronze medals, placing third in the three-meter springboard with a score of 425.30 points and pairing with Purdue’s Brandon Loschiavo to finish third in the synchro platform event.

Grayson Campbell finished third in the one-meter springboard with a score of 372.70 points, while Jacob Cornish teamed with Tyler Downs to claim a bronze medal in the three-meter synchro event.

The Longhorn divers took the combined team title by almost 54 points over second-place Purdue and 10.5 points over GC Diving in the women’s race.
