Here are a handful of notes and quotes from Texas coach Tom Herman’s media availability and the Longhorns’ Week 2 game notes:
• Herman said WR[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] Joshua Moore is suspended indefinitely for his weapons charge from earlier this summer, but is at practice and working with the scout team.
• ESPN’s College GameDay will be in Austin Saturday for the first time since 2009. It will be the 17th time that the broadcast has been on hand for a Texas football game and the seventh time the hit morning show has been hosted on the 40 Acres.
“It’s great for our fans, it’s great for our university. This is one of the premier public institutions in the country. To be able to showcase it in front of that many eyeballs is important,” Herman said. “It’s great for recruiting, because we know that recruits wake up, and they watch that show. We want to put our best foot forward and show off our players with all the different features they have and all of that.”
• Herman said that LSU quarterback Joe Burrow can be compared to the Longhorns’ Sam Ehlinger.
“I love Joe — I recruited him. I got to know his family,” Herman said. “He’s a coach’s kid. He reminds me a lot of our guy. He’s physically and mentally tough.“
• Saturday’s game will mark the first time Texas and LSU have met on the gridiron since the 2003 SBC Cotton Bowl Classic in Dallas, a game won by the Longhorns, 35-20. It’s the first time the two teams have met in Austin since 1954.
• Herman said all of the starting offensive linemen — LT Samuel Cosmi, LG Parker Braun, C Zach Shackelford, RG Junior Angilau and RT Derek Kerstetter — graded out as champions.
“They played well, (although) certainly not perfect,” Herman said. “I thought our communication was really good. They made some calls. Again, when you spend two weeks practicing seven percent blitz and all of a sudden three out of every four snaps is blitz, that’s a big-time adjustment for an offensive line, and I thought they handled it well.”
• Texas senior WR Devin Duvernay hauled in a team-high nine passes for 55 yards in the opener, with the catches his career high for a game. He went all of 2018 without dropping a pass and has shown he will be a valuable weapon this season as well.
“I literally can’t remember when and if I’ve seen (Duvernay drop) one,” Herman said. “The thing about him — I don’t know about the streak or whatever that is, and hope you just didn’t jinx us — but he’s strong and he’s really competitive, and that’s what helps him.”
