The Texas Football RevolUTion will be Televised

The 2018 recruiting class for Texas football has arrived and the results for Tom Herman’s team are nothing short of spectacular. The Longhorns brought in the third-best overall class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, and one of the reasons for the program’s success is Herman’s commitment to using every tool in his kit. In this case, Herman is using social media as a potent weapon.

Herman and his staff rolled out the clever hashtag #Revolution18, and organized a Twitter takeover that Bryan Carrington, [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] Assistant Director of Player Personnel and recruiting mastermind, helped launch.

The Players Shop

We have highlighted the new school tactics Herman and his staff bring to the table in Austin, when Herman engaged in some playful showmanship with Missouri quarterback Drew Lock at the 2017 Texas Bowl, and Herman’s use of social media marketing showcases his understanding of what the new era of college football players are looking for.

Whether you live on social media or think it’s a distraction, you can’t argue with the results. Consider that Texas football comes off a 7-6 season and it is even more impressive to see the program compete for recruits with the likes of Alabama, a perennial national title contender. Pile Herman’s social media acumen on top of his near-absolute monopoly of the top 15 high school prospects in Texas (Texas football landed 11 of the 15) and we’ve got a recipe for success, Texas football fans. That’s something worth Tweeting about.
