Texas loss to West Virginia 23-31 leaves many questions
Texas and West Virginia season records were tied (4-6, 2-5 Big 12) going into the 11th match, fifth in Morgantown. A possible bowl game would go to the winner. Texas will not be playing in a bowl game this year like they did not in 2010 under Mack Brown and 2015 and 2016 under Charlie Strong.
Over the past several games Texas switched from having a great first half and giving it up the second half, to the opposite. Granted they never stopped the Texas fight to the end.
The first season as head coach for Steve Sarkisian has been tough yet he and his staff remain steadfast, focused, and resolute.
Against West Virginia, Texas had 355 yards of total offense, 203 rushing, 152 passing, but only possessed the ball for 21:24 versus West Virginia controlling the ball for 38:36. Texas went 2-10 in third-down conversions to West Virginia 12-20 and had 58 offensive plays to West Virginia’s 87.
Keilan Robinson had a 111 yard game on nine carries and one touchdown, Roschon Johnson carried the ball 15 times for 77 years and one touchdown. Hudson Card came in the game in the second quarter and through a touchdown pass to Xavier Worty who had seven catches for 85 yards on the night.
Cameron Dicker continued to add points by going 1-for-1 on a field goal and 2-for-2 on PAT’s. His current point total is 376 points and is the all-time point leader in points by a kicker for Texas.
Will Thompson, Card, or Ballard start and play the final game of the season? Both Casey Thompson and Hudson Card both got hurt in the game that required Texas to call up the third QB on the depth chart, Ben Ballard. Ballard is a sophomore from Hyde Park who played in the 2020 Alamo Bowl. Horns Illustrated highlighted Ballard last year.
