Texas soccer falls to Texas Tech in overtime, 2-1, in home finale

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas soccer team lost, 2-1, in double overtime Sunday to Texas Tech at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The game was played before an announced crowd of 1,982, UT’s largest home crowd of the season. With the loss, [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]Texas slipped to 10-7-0 overall, and 5-3-0 against Big 12 teams, and has been mathematically eliminated from contention for the Big 12 regular-season title. Texas Tech improved 13-2-2 overall and 5-1-2 against Big 12 foes.

The Longhorns got on the scoreboard first when Tech midfielder Amanda Porter knocked it into her own goal in the 61st minute.

That miscue almost was enough for the Longhorns, but Tech got the equalizer in the 89th minute on a header by Charlotte Teeter from eight yards out to knot the score at 1-1.

Teeter then played a part in the winning goal when forward Macy Schultz converted a pass from Teeter in the 96th minute to give Tech the victory.

The Red Raiders outshot the Longhorns, 19-15, and enjoyed a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal. UT goalkeeper Savannah Madden turned in a career-high 10 saves.

Texas is now 0-3 in overtime games this season, having lost in extra time earlier this season to Providence and West Virginia.

UT will close out the regular season Thursday, Oct. 31 at Oklahoma.
