Texas Track and Field – Okolo Named Big 12 Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week
IRVING, Texas – Courtney Okolo was named the Big 12 Track and Field Female Athlete of the Week on Wednesday
Okolo breezed to victory in the 400 meters during Saturday's Texas Invitational in a nation-leading time of 51.36 seconds. That marked the outdoor season debut for Okolo in the 400, though she ran the second leg of the nation-leading 4x400-meter relay (3:26.38) at last month’s Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. A five-time All-American, Okolo was fourth in the 400 at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships.
This is Okolo’s first-career Big 12 Track and Field Athlete of the Week honor and the second-straight week a Longhorn has received the award. Marielle Hall was the top female athlete in the league last week.
The Longhorns will travel to Waco, Texas, on Saturday to compete in the Michael Johnson Dr Pepper Classic.
