AUSTIN, Texas — What’s the saying?

“To be the best, you have to beat the best.”

The Texas women’s golf team will try to do exactly that when they tee off against three of the top programs in the country Oct. 26-28 in the 2020 East Lake Cup Collegiate Match Play Championship in Atlanta, Ga.

“Receiving the invite to the East Lake Cup was very exciting and definitely uplifting during these times,” Texas head coach Ryan Murphy said. “We are incredibly grateful for the invite and it's one of those tournaments that you circle prior to the season starting. We can't wait to be there in October.”

The tournament will feature four of the top seven teams in the final 2019-20 NCAA women’s golf rankings: Texas (1), USC (2), Arizona State (3) and Wake Forest (7).

The event will take place at the historic East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

The tournament format is modeled after the NCAA Golf Championships, with an opening round of strike play to crown male and female individual champions and to determine seeding for the ensuing two days of match play.

All three days of the competition will be carried on the Golf Channel.
