Volleyball knocks off Oklahoma again, 3-1

NORMAN, Okla. — Five Longhorns registered 11 or more kills to help the Texas volleyball team knock off Oklahoma for the second time in as many nights.

UT, which swept OU Thursday, knocked off the Sooners, 25-14, 25-20, 27-29, 25-13 Friday at McCasland Field House.

As she did in the season opener, junior outside hitter Logan Eggleston led the UT offense with a team-high 18 kills. Skyler Fields added 16, Brionne Butler and Molly Phillips had 12 each, and Asjia O’Neal added 11.

Junior setter Jhenna Gabriel quarterbacked the UT offense, handing out a career-high 58 assists in the four-set match, and also turned in nine digs, three blocks and a service ace.

The Longhorns started fast, jumping out to a 12-4 advantage before cruising to the 11-point win in the first set. The second was closer, and the third was the first set this season in which Texas has come out on the short end. But the Longhorns were able to regroup in the fourth, pulling away from the Sooners to clinch the match.Texas open the home schedule Thursday when the Kansas Jayhawks visit the Frank Erwin Center at 7 p.m. in a match that will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.
