No. 1 Men’s Golf Finishes Second At Aggie Invitational

The No. 1 Texas Men’s Golf team fired a field-best 3-under-par 357 in Sunday’s final round of The Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club to claim runner-up honors in its final regular-season tournament.  Through 11 events, the Longhorns have finished no lower than sixth place and have collected seven tournament crowns.

The Longhorns, who played without top-ranked collegian Jordan Spieth due to his sponsor exemption in the PGA TOUR Valero Texas Open, finished the weekend at 40-over-par (385-378-357=1120) to finish in a second-place tie with host Texas A&M (1120, +40). No. 8 Oregon won the team championship after tying Texas' best round of the day and closed the tournament at 29-over (376-376-357=1109). The Aggie Invitational was a non-traditional six-player format with each team counting five individual scores each round.

Sophomore Toni Hakula led UT on the individual leaderboard with a career-best tie for third place at 2-over 218 (74-72-72). Junior Julio Vegas finished five strokes back at 223 (73-77-73) for 10th place. Vegas enters postseason competition with five top-10s in 10 starts.
