2021-2022 Division I LEARFIELD Director's Cup recognizes the very best athletic program in the country

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte accepted, for the second year in a row, the 2021-22 Division I LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup for having the best college athletics program in the country.

With 523 student-athletes and 400 staff members that make up Texas Athletics, teams won four National Championships plus 10 NCAA top-two finishes. National Championships were won by Texas Rowing, Men’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Indoor Track and Field. The four National titles tied a school record for most team titles in a single season set in 1985-96.

The way it works is points are given based on how a team does. You get 100 points for National Titles, 90 points for runner-up, and so on. Texas scored 1,449.50 points this season. This was 197.5 points more than last year when Texas won the Directors’ Cup with 1,252 points.

Texas’ back-to-back wins joins Stanford who held the back-to-back title for 25 years and now are the only two programs to win back-to-back. This year Stanford scored 1,352.25 points. In Big 12 Conference standing, with Texas 1st, Oklahoma came in 10th with 968.50 points overall.

Interestingly, National Champions Texas Rowing, Women’s Tennis were also back-to-back winners. Men’s Indoor Track & Field won their first National Championship, and Men’s Golf their fourth.

Texas had six NCAA runner-up teams: Women’s Indoor Track & Field, Women’s Swimming & Diving, Men’s Swimming & Diving, Softball, Men’s Outdoor Track & Field and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field.

Other teams that ranked in the top-10 NCAA standings were Volleyball (tied for 5th), Women’s Basketball (tied for 5th), Baseball (tied for 7th), Men’s Tennis (tied for 9th).

Since 1993-1994, Texas has finished in the top-10 a total of 22 times:

Horns Illustrated has the privilege's of working with some of the staff of Texas Athletics from the sports information directors, the marketing team, creative team, coaches, players, and we even have had a couple chance engagements with Chris Del Conte. We get to see a small glimpse of what happens behind the scenes that makes this program the best in the country.

You will find the hardest working people who are at the top of their game and bring their very best everyday just like the players and coaches do. The Texas Athletics program is the best because everyone has the mindset of working extremely hard, doing their very best at an extremely high level all for one common goal, to WIN!

There is one common theme that you will find across everyone we work with. They ALL are servant hearted, kind, and respect everyone. This is likely some of the secrets to their success. #HookEm
